33 – homeground

You

met me in my space: you didn’t ask me to walk too far out.

You came into my space and made it yours.

I put flowers in the corners to brighten up the rooms.

You added lamps and a coffee table.

I strung tiny lights from wall to wall

you pulled in picture frames filled with new memories.

When I looked around, my elbows felt claustrophobia kicking in

and you asked me to lay down.

You made your arm my pillow

and kissed my forehead lightly.

I opened my eyes to a ceiling made of stars — we had all the room in the world.

You

met me in my space

and practiced the “whatever it takes”

You made an empty space a home.

I

hope I’ve done the same for you.
