I woke up before the sun this morning. I did it so I could be home. I threw all of my clothes, my two dogs, my toothbrush into the back of the car. I grabbed a coffee on the way out and hit the open road.

The sun didn’t rise until the late afternoon. By then I’d already been the stone in a sling shot driven perfectly across the plains and landing on its mark. The old house creaked hello.
